EFSA Journal 2010; 8(1):1451 REASONED OPINION Modification of the existing MRLs for mancozeb in fresh peas (without 1 pods) 2 European Food Safety Authority European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), Parma, Italy SUMMARY According to Article 6 of the Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, France received an application from BASF AGRO SAS to modify the existing MRL for dithiocarbamates in fresh peas (without pods) resulting form the use of mancozeb. The intended use in France requires increasing the existing EC MRL for dithiocarbamates (dithiocarbamates, expressed as CS2, including maneb, mancozeb, metiram, propineb, thiram and ziram) in fresh peas (without pods). The Evaluating Member State (EMS) France drafted an evaluation report according to Article 8 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 which was submitted to the European Commission and forwarded to EFSA on 3 September 2009. Mancozeb is a substance belonging to the group of dithiocarbamates such as maneb, thiram, metiram, propineb, ziram. Since there is no specific enforcement method for the determination of mancozeb, MRLs were established for CS2, which is the common moiety for all dithiocarbamates. The current MRL for fresh peas (without pods) set in Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 is 0.1 mg/kg which reflects the currently authorised use of mancozeb in some Member States.
