Competence in your own work role within the sector 1.1 Understand the main duties and responsibilities of your own work role On commencing employment, you should have received a job description that sets out the main functions of your role and what you will be doing. You may also have received a person specification. This is usually attached to or part of the job description and sets out the knowledge and skills required to do the job. Job descriptions can be vague and they don’t always describe tasks in great detail. People are sometimes given work programs that give more detail about the tasks they will perform in their roles. Your employer may operate a rota or timetable that sets out which person is to be supported and at what time. Discuss with your supervisor / manager any concerns you may have about your job description and any other aspects of your employment. If you work for a large organisation, you may have a Human Resources department or lead person who can provide additional help and guidance about your employment.
