The relationsh ip of the graph ite content to the third body topography and the mi pact of the graph ite content on frictional properties of them aterials w ere investigated on a constant speed friction testm ach ine. The resu lts show ed that, when less than 15% , the graphite had a significant influence to the m aterialporosity and the friction temperature. The results dem onstrated clearly the friction and w ear property of the m aterial was closely related to the graphite content and th is w as due to the effect of the th ird body contain ing graph ite particles form ed on the frictional surface under dry friction cond ition. The th ird body derived from low graph ite content sintered m aterials had a h igh level of m etal com position. Plow ing effect of the hard m etal led to h igher friction coefficient andw ear rate. W ith the increase of graph ite content, the density and adhesion of the th ird body reduced because of the incr
