By means of her unique narrative strategies, Wharton de- picts the theme of repression and confinement over women. his essay suggests that, to a great ex- tent, the narrative devices such as / visibility0 theory, elision, along with repetition, contribute to this fictions aesthetic effect, which intensifies its feminist implication.
