In order to understand comprehensively and profoundly the present situation of the field, the paper first introduces the mode of semantic annotation of social media, then elaborates and analyzes the main methods of semantic annotation of social media from aspects of key phrase extraction, ontology-based entity identification, sentiment detection and opinion mining ,and cross-media linking. Moreover the paper discusses two ways to improve semantic annotation of social media. Finally, based on the above, it looks to the future development of the technologies.
