English Abstract Abstract Monologues and interior monologues in Wuthering Heights present the poetic and dramatic features, which pose huge challenge to the translation. Translators, for example Liang Shiqiu, Yang Yi and Fang Ping, translate in quite different manners. The thesis aims at studying the factors of ideology, poetics and translator subjectivity that affects the translation of monologues and interior monologues. It is the dominant ideology and dominant poetics in a given time in the target culture that manipulate the translation activities of the three translators. During the period of 1919 to 2000, the dominance of political ideology was so overwhelmed in Chinese society that the poetics served the needs of politics. However, translators could resist the dominant ideology and dominant poetics to express their individual ideologies and poetics. In addition, translators could exert their power of education, bilingual ability, aesthetic experience and social position on appreciation, interpretation and expression of his or her translating. Undoubtedly, translator subjectivity should be limited to produce a faithful and fluent translated version with great craft. Under the influence of ideology, poetics and translator subjectivity, the three translators apply different translation procedures in their translating figures of speech, culture-loaded words and poetic sentences in monologues and interior monologues. The translators resort to translation procedures such as addition, omission and transformation and translation strategies such as domestication and foreignization to different degrees, which leads to different artistic and linguistic effect and affect the translation quality.
