The Application of Productive Activities in Senior High School English Classroom

Abstract: English learning stands a very crucial place for senior high school students. And classroom teaching is the main way for them to gain English knowledge. Various activities have been applied in classroom. Students should pay more attention to the English classroom and make full use of the activities, especially the productive activities. This paper intends to explore the general concept of activities, the difference between mechanical exercises and productive activities, the functions of the productive activities and the application of productive activities in senior high school English classroom.

I . Introduction
Classes should be learner-centered, with meaningful, functional activities. Productive activity is a beneficial practice in senior high school English classroom. Output activities will not only raise the learner’s awareness of the target forms, but is also a process in which the learner formulates and tests his hypotheses on the target languages and one in which he reflects on forms (Swain, 1985). Therefore, the application of productive activities plays an important role in English teaching. To guarantee teachers’ teaching quality and students’ learning efficiency, both of them should make full use of classroom cooperation. Thus, both teachers and students should get to know the definition, the basic classification, the functions of the activities and more information on productive activities in learning English.

Activities, generally described as exercises, are designed to get students to learn and use language as freely, skillfully and communicatively as they can.
