The Neoclassical Period Time Span of this Period: 1660 -1778 Backgrounds in Seventeenth century of the neoclassical period This period saw the following great political and social events. Six great political and social events in Seventeenth Century 1. Restoration of King Charles II in 1660; 2.The Great Plague(great contagious disease) of 1665; 3. the Great London Fire; 4.the Glorious Revolution in 1689; 17th Century Historical and Political Events 5. constant strife between the monarch and the parliament, between the two big parties --- the Tories and the Whigs; 6. constant fights between opposing religious sects such as the Roman Catholicism, the Anglican Church and the Dissenters, between the ruling class and the the laboring poor. Backgrounds in Eighteenth century This century saw the fast development of England as a nation. 1. a vast expansion of British colonies in North America, India, and the West Indies provided England with a bigger market and free capital; 2.
