Section 1 Modes of Transport There are various modes in international cargo transport, including maritime transport, air transport, railway and road transport, inland waterway transport, pipeline transport, parcel transport and so on. Section 1 Modes of Transport 1. Maritime Transportation Maritime transportation has always been the dominant support of global trade. Features of Maritime Transport According to the management of vessels, maritime transport can be classified mainly as liner transport and shipping by chartering (tramp). An ocean liner is a passenger ship or passenger-cargo ship that transports people and often freight from one port to another along regular trans-oceanic routes according to a scheduled dates or times irrespective of whether they are full or not. A tramp is any ship which does not have a fixed schedule or published ports of call. As opposed to liners, tramp ships trade on the spot market with no fixed schedule or itinerary/ports-of-call(s).
