With the development of communication technology ，a new relay protection using wide area information is considered as effectual means of dealing with relay problems in large power network. In order to improve the limitation of relay protection actual ，the paper refers to relay protection system based on regional information on the Basis of analyzing traditional relay protection and wide area protection. The system pays attention to improving the capability of relay protection by using regional power network information. And the paper also introduces the structure and the action regulations of regional intelligent protection.
