Emily Dickinson 班级:1104 学号姓名:1123040413李亚 1123040414刘红伟 Emily Dickinson [诗人简介] Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. As a young child, she attended a local grammar school and, for about a year, Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in South Hadley .She showed a sharp intelligence, and was able to create many original writings of rhyming stories ,delighting her follow classmates. After 1862, affected by an unhappy love affair, Emily gradually reduced her social contacts ,going out less and less into society .By her late twenties ,this had led to an almost complete seclusion. However, her private life was pretty much in order .Within the confines of the family home, the garden, and her circle of friends, she felt with her whole heart ,thought with intensity, and imagined with ardor, and she maintained written contact with a variety of thought provoking people. Living a life of simplicity and seclusion, Emily read intensively by herself. Her favorite writers were Keats, the Brownings ,and George Eliot; classic myths ,the Bible ,and Shakespeare were what Emily drew commonly on for allusions and references in her poetry and letters. It was said that around 1850 she started to compose poems seriously. In fact, she kept on writing all her life ,and she wrote altogether 1775 poems. But only seven of her poems were published during her lifetime. After her death in 1886, her sister discovered her notebooks and published the contents, thus , presenting America with a tremendous poetic legacy that appeared fully formed and without any warning. As a poet ,Dickinson is simply unlike any other one, her compact ,forceful language ,characterized formally by long disruptive dashes, heavy iambic meters ,and angular ,imprecise rhymes ,is one of the singular literary achievements of the nineteenth century ,in her writing ,she follows her own feelin
