Let the Ss make up some sentences using these phrases or sentence patterns : the other day ; For one thing…for another/also… I suggest… You should /ought to … You need to … Step 2 Leading—in Some people like keeping cows ,pigs or sheep to earn money , while others like keeping pets in order to enjoy themselves. Now I’ll tell you my hobby .I like keeping fish in my spare time . At my home there is a big tank with some goldfish in it .In order to make the tank look much prettier, I put some underwater plants and a few large rocks in it . Every day I give them food in time and every two or three days I’ll change water for them . Now my goldfish are becoming more and more healthy and beautiful. I like them very much . Unfortunately ,when I got home yesterday ,I found some goldfish ill . I am worried about them and really don’t know what to do . Can you give me some advice ? First , I let them discuss for a while . Then, I let five students tell me their suggestions Ask Ss : Do you keep any animals at home, for example, dogs, birds ,cats or fish ? How will you feel if your pets are ill ? What should you do ? Four students stand up one by one to describe their pets . They also tell us their feelings as well as good ideas . Very good ! You’ve done a good job . Now ,we’ll learn Lesson 45 . In the dialogue, two friends, Kate and Li Qun ,are talking about keeping fish Step 3 Dialogue I. Play the tape of the dialogue twice for the Ss to listen and answer there questions : ①Where does Kate want to keep the fish ? ②What’s wrong with keeping fish in a bowl ? ③What size tank should she get ? ④What should she put in the tank ? II. Play the tape again . This time the Ss listen and repeat . III. Let the Ss practise the dialogue in pairs. Then ask three pairs to act it out in front of the class . Step 4
