School of Physics and engineering, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou 510275) Abstract: In this paper,One nano-sized oxadiazole bridging ligand 3,5-bis(4-pyridyl-3-phenyl)-1,3,4- oxadiazole (L) was designed and synthesized by the reaction of 3,5-bis(3-iodophenyl)-4-amino- 1,3,4-oxadiazole with 4-pyridineboronic acid via Pd-catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. Three Hg(II)-L coordination polymers with one-dimensional helical structure has been successfully prepared by the reaction of L with Hg(II)X2 (X = Cl-, Br- and I-) in solution. New coordination polymers were fully characterized by infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Moreover, these three new complexes exhibit interesting anion-dependent NLO and luminescent properties. Key words: Optical;NLO;Luminescent properties 0 Introduction Among the known applications for metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), second-order nonlinear optics (NLO) might be one of their promising applications as metal-organic hybrid materials. [1-2] Noncentrosymmetric assembly of molecular building blocks is essential for a bulk solid to show second-order NLO effects. Recent progress in the design and preparation of supramolecular assembly has shown the rational design and synthesis of noncentrosymmetric metal-organic species to be possible. Helicity is common in both living and nonliving worlds. On the other hand, helicity is a special form of one-dimensional chirality. One-dimensional d10 metal-containing coordination polymers with helical morphology, thus, could be ideal second order nonlinear optical material candidates since their structures are noncentrosymmetric.
