JuanandMarialivedahappylifewiththeirthreechildren:Miguel,JoseandAna.Theeldestson,Miguel,wasahardworkingyoungmanwhohelpedhisfatherwiththefarmwork.Hewasresponsibleandalwaystookcareofhisyoungerbrotherandsister.Thecouplealwaystoldtheirchildrenthattheywerehappyaslongasthefamilywastogether.ThoughJoseandAnaweretooyoungtounderstandthat,Miguel,whotreasuredaphotoofhisfamily,borethatinmind.

Oneday,whilethefamilywashavingdinner,theyheardaloudknockonthedoor.Itwasthevillagechief,whohadcometodeliversomebadnews:Thevillagewasindangerofbeingfloodedduetoheavyrain,andtheyneededtoevacuate(撤离)immediately.

JuanandMariaquicklygatheredtheirchildrenandsomeessentials,andtheysetofftowardstheevacuationcenter.Beforeleavingforthecenter,Migueltookthepreciousfamilyphotoinahurry.Thejourneywaslongandfullofdanger,withtherainpouringdownheavilyandthewindbeatingthemviolently.Thechildrenwerescaredandtired,butJuanandMariaheldtheirhandstoreassurethem,tellingthemthateverythingwasgoingtobealright.

Whentheyfinallyreachedtheevacuationcenter,theyweregreetedbyotherfamilieswhohadalsobeenforcedtoleavetheirhomes.Thecenterwascrowdedanduncomfortable,butthefamilywasgratefultohavearoofovertheirheadsandsomefoodtoeat.

Daysturnedintoweeks,andJuanandMariagrewrestless.Theymissedtheirhomeandtheirfarm,andtheywereworriedaboutwhatwouldhappentotheircrops.Severalweekslater,thedaycamewhenthefloodwatersslowlyreceded(消退).
