TolkienwasborninBloemfontein,SouthAfrica.Whenhewas4yearsold,hisfatherdiedandhis
familymovedbacktoEngland.TolkiengraduatedfromOxfordUniversitywhenhewas23yearsold,and
participatedintheFirstWorldWar.Duringthewar,Tolkiensufferedfrom“trenchfever”andstayedinthe
