Ralph Waldo Emerson;Ralph Waldo Emerson;Life Story;Father passes away at age 8 and Emerson is left to support his four other brothers. Ralph was asked to share a coat with his brother Edward to save finances. Despite the hardships, all the Emerson boys, except one, graduated from Harvard University. ;Life Story;Emersons first and only settlement was at the important Second Unitarian Church of Boston, where he became sole pastor in 1830. In 1832, Emerson traveled to Europe where he met poets Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth who introduce him to Romantic notions of nature and philosophy.(Introduction to Transcendental Thought) ;3 years after he became the sole pastor, he had a crisis of faith, finding that he was not interested in the rite of Communion. (teacher/reform) Eventually Emersons controversial views caused his resignation. However, he never ceased to be both teacher and preacher, although without the support of any concrete idea of God.; After returning to the United States, Emerson lectured on natural history, biology, and history. In 1835 Emerson married Lydia Jackson and settled with her at the east end of the village of Concord, Massachusetts, where he then spent the rest of his life.;Emersons health started to fail after the partial burning of his house in 1872. He made his last tour abroad in 1872-1873, and then withdrew more and more from public life. Emerson died on April 27, 1882 in Concord. ;works;Features;Emersons first book,?Nature, a collection of essays, summed up his ideas, described how humans find God within nature. Emerson emphasized individualism and rejected traditional authority. He invited the world to enjoy an original relation to the universe and emphasized the infinitude of the private man.
