Learning objectives: After the reading, students will be able to know more about pandas and animal protection. learn how to scan(寻读) for specific information. learn to use numbers and facts in expository writing (说明文). II. Approach: three-step reading (PWP ); situational , task-based approaches III. Teaching Aids: Multi-Media, PPT IV. Teaching procedures Step 1 warm-up. Introduction. Enjoy the pictures. Interact between teacher and students. (Purpose: Get to know each other. Prepare for the lesson.) Step 2 Lead-in (pre-reading) T: What’s your favourite animal? Why do you like it/them? T: What’s my favourite animal, do you know? Guessing and free talk. (Purpose: activate Ss’ background knowledge, arouse their interest) Step 3 Read and learn (pre-reading) Learn some facts of pandas. Learn some of the new words. (Purpose: Language input and vocabulary.) Step 4 While Reading Scanning: Scan the whole passage to find what the numbers mean. ⑵. Scanning: Scan para 1,2,3,5 to find the answer to the questions. (Purpose: to give Ss practice in scanning for specific information) (3)Careful reading :mind-mapping (Purpose: to give Ss practice in finding the details. ) ⑷. Discussion: As teenagers, what can we do to help save the pandas? ⑸. Summary and Retelling: What have you learned about pandas through reading? (Purpose: Summarize and language output.) Step 5. Sentence appreciation and the vocabulary-using. (post-reading) (Purpose: Focus on the sentences and vocabulary. Use them in the new context.) Step 6. Listening and imitation. Step 7. Watch a video, talk about and write about whales. (Purpose: Expanding and transferring of knowledge) Step 8. Homework Write to introduce whales and call on people to protect them. Try to use numbers and facts in expository writing.
