Abst Abstract III III Abstract Cyclodextrin(CD) can form stable host-guest inclusion complexes using a hydrophobic inner cavity and a hydrophilic exterior, which can bind selectively various organic, biomolecule and inorganic through host-guest interactions. Moreover, cyclodextrin plays vital roles in many subjects such as analytical chemistry, catalysis, medicaments and biomedicine. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) own unique superparamagnetism, high surface area, good dispersibility, excellent biocompatibility, activity of catalysis and low toxicity. Therefore they have been used as excellent materials in many fields, including immobilized catalysts, labeling and sorting of biological species, controlled drug delivery, and magnetic resonance imaging. The surfaces of the MNPs are often modified by capping agents such as surfactants, inorganic compounds and polymers to make the MNPs more stable, biocompatible and suitable for further functionalizations and applications. The combination of CD and MNPs has attracted increasing attention and the obtianed hybrid nanoparticles have properties of multifunction, magnetic separation and reuse. As a result of it, when the MNPs are modified with CD, it is possible to obtain a new kind of material, which simultaneously possesses the unique properties of MNPs (superparamagnetism and electrocatalytic) and CDs (high supramolecular recognition and host-guest inclusion capability) through combining their individual characteristics. In this paper, we mainly focus on the synthesis, characterization and applications of cyclodextrin-functional magnetic nanocomposites in environmental wastewater treatment. This dissertation consists of six chapters: Chapter 1: This part introduced the research background, the characteristics, surface modifications and applications of magnetic nanoparticles.
