精读英语 第二册 笔记资料 2.3 Music
Unit Two Text 3 Music I. Pre-Reading Discussion What makes young people love pop music passionately? There are several reasons that may account for why young people love pop music passionately. 1. Pop music deals mostly with issues closely related to young people’s life issues such as falling in/ out of love, dissatisfaction about personal situations, or pleasure and of course pressure of youthfulness. So young people often feel their voices and attitudes are aptly expressed in pop music. 2. Youth culture is definitely different from the mainstream conservative counterpart— and pop music in its more direct approach to feelings and alternative employment of musical styles also appeal to the often rebellious nature of the youth. 【Introduction】 1. Rock Music n. 摇滚音乐 group of related music styles that have dominated popular music in the West since about 1955. Rock music began in the United States, but it has influenced and in turn been shaped by a broad field of cultures and musical traditions, including gospel music, the blues, country-and-western music, classical music, folk music, electronic music, and the popular music of Asia, Africa, and Latin America . In addition to its use as a broad designation, the term rock music commonly refers to music styles after 1959 predominantly influenced by white musicians. Other major rock-music styles include rock and roll (also known as rock n roll), the first genre of the music; and rhythm-and-blues music (RB), influenced mainly by black American musicians. Each of these major genres encompasses a variety of sub-styles, such as heavy metal, punk, alternative, and grunge. While innovations in rock music have often occurred in regional centers—such as New York City; Kingston, Jamaica; and Liverpool, England—the influence of rock music is now felt worldwide. 2. menace (n.): a possible danger; a threat: 威胁 e.g.: He spoke with menace in his voice.
