This individual had battled his way in to face Doom in person – no small feat, thought Doom – and presented Doom with a plan to conquer the Fantastic Four. “But why come to me?” asked Doom. “You have faced the Fantastic Four before, and done quite well against them. You do not strike me as the type who needs… assistance.” “I could defeat them,” he responded proudly, “but I am not looking for a simple test of strength. Indeed, that is where we have both failed. Relying on force, we allowed the Four to use their wits and powers to regain an advantage. But by distracting them…” Doom considered this. In truth, his thoughts had wandered this way in the past; but such thoughts did not mix with conquest, and that was the area on which Doom focused. “Agreed,” the monarch decided. “I’ll need three of your people; plus bring along any you want as well. And, this being your plan, you will have to lure them in for me. I will do the rest.” “I agree as well,” the figure said, turning and walking out of the chamber. Left alone, Doom sent commands out to both his Doombots and human minions to prepare suitable chambers. And if Doom felt any pleasure, his mask revealed nothing. * * * The FantastiCar flew high above the New England shore, circling. While Mr. Fantastic scanned the area with the ship’s equipment, the others peered over the side. As usual, the Thing was fidgeting. “Just drop me down there, Stretcho. I’ll splash around in da wa
