M. Akinyemi Editor: Humphrey Omo-Ojumah Summary The problem of Africa has been identified to be caused by corrupt manner from various bodies. Not until everlasting solution is found to this problem, the citizens of the continent will continue to wallow in abject poverty and enormous degradation of the economy. It is not new that poverty entails untold misery upon the earth. We are aware that life gives nothing at all to countless millions of children that are born and condemns through wretchedness at every moment of their lives as a result of poverty caused by the corrupt act. Fierce and remorseless has become the struggle to win daily bread for most children in Africa, there is a stigma of starvation stares in the eyes of most children in the continent which needs urgent attention by the international communities. Many believed that public officials in Africa request for reelection because holding office afford them the opportunity to have access to the states coffers and the immunity from being prosecuted after stealing the public fund, commonly known as national cake as defined by the people. The effects of corruption in Africa The report of the meeting held by the African Union in September 2002 in Addis Ababa pointed out that the effect of corruption in Africa has costs the continent economies excess of one hundred and forty billion dollars ($148 billion) each year. The report states that resources diverted by corrupt manner represent 25% of Africas GDP. It was also reported that the act of corruption has increased the cost of goods by 20% in the continent. World Bank view on the curb of corruption requires good governance and anti-corruption as a very important rudiment for the alleviation of poverty and improving development. The news
