‘Survival Mode 101, Become Self Sufficient in Your Own Home’Philippians 4:11, “…for I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content.” KJVIntroduction:This is the first of what I hope will lead to at least one more book, most likely a cookbook, intended to offer helpful and practical solutions and tips on how to survive when your life is in “survivalmode“. I have personally functioned at this level more times than I dare to mention oreven allow myself to think about. With that being said I believe my experiences may be of use to others who find themselves there too. Not necessarily a good place to be butdoable. Beginning at an early age my life probably wasn’t any different or any moredifficult than yours may have been. Later on, however, life took a few unexpected turns. My parents were divorced, not that unusual, so my mom, sister and I had to move from our home. The places we now began calling “home” were not at all like the lovely house we had previously lived in but not too bad yet. So far we still had our own bedrooms and our own “stuff”. Then we moved into an apartment building, a four-plex. My “bedroom” consisted of a twin bed in the living room;my sister’s was an alcove near the kitchen. The walls were painted a very bright purple and the neighbors were not at all what we’d ever experienced before (nuff said on that subject)! Needless to say, we didn’t have much money. The next really huge change for me was that I ended up in the hospital when my hip dislocated, a birth defect that came back with a vengeance! Here I was in traction, unable to move and headed toward my first surgery. Awakening from the surgery I found myself in what’s called a hip Spica cast. Now that’s fun, especially when two nurses come in to “flip” you over and indeed, over you go! I should mention this wasat 12 years old so imagine the scenario at that age.
