Good human resources management is essential for retaining staff and maintaining a high level of performance within an organization. A responsive human resources management system can help ensure that employees know what they are supposed to do, get timely feedback, feel valued and respected, and have opportunities to learn and grow on the job The Definition or HRM The term “human resources” implies that people have capabilities that drive organizational performance. Other terms such as “human capital” and “intellectual assets” all have in common the idea that people make the difference in how an organization performs. Why HRM is so important? HRM is a necessary function of management to select, train, and evaluate the work force; It also adds value to the organization. High performance practices lead to both high individual and high organizational performance; As a strategic tool, HRM helps establish an organization’s sustainable competitive advantage The Activities Involved in HRM 1、HRM begin with human resource planning to ensure that personnel needs will be constantly and appropriately met. 2、Then, acquisition—getting people to work for the organization 3、After this, HRM should consider how to keep these valuable resources (the only resources that can leave the organization at will) 4、Next, human resources should be developed to their full capacity to contribute to the organization 5、Finally, each employee’s work should be measured against the performance standards or objectives established for his or her job.
