Each division generates billions of dollars in profit on $10 billion to $20 billion in revenue, making each division bigger than many Fortune 500 companies. In each division there are dozens of products.Some of the products generate a lot of revenue and profit, others are investments and dont turn a profitfor many years. Steve Ballmer wasnt yet CEO or president of Microsoft when they called all the Project Atlas engineers together to meet with him in one of the big lecture rooms. Just the day before, the Project Atlas T-shirts had been handed out, and I had mine on. I should have known we were in trouble when we were given T-shirts of a man holding the world on his shoulders—Project Atlas was about delivering software and services on any device, any place, and at any time.
