ABSTRACTFromthe1990s,ourtraditionalsettlementswerewidespreadfocusbyscholars.Butthesituationoftheresearchhasbeeninthe“hotsouthandcoldnorth”conditions,whichmeansthetraditionalvillagesinthenorthhavethelowersocialawareness.TheMentougoudistrictisinthewesternofBeijing.Themountains,rivers,oldroad,militarydefense,templesandgoodssupplypromotetheformanddevelopment ofthevillageinthisarea.Inrecentyears, duetothetransition ofthetrafficlinesand declineofcoalindustry,thevillagesdevelopedslowlyanddeclinedgradually.Andtheinfluenceofthemodernindustrycivilizationtothisareaislessthanflatlands, becauseofthemountain isthenaturalprotectivescreentothevillages,thefeaturesthelivingcustommaintaincompletely.Theprosperityinthehistoryandthedeclineinlastcenturypromotetheformationofexistingsceneofthesetraditionalvillages.Thearticlechoose34villageswhichformedinMingDynastyandhavethenorthmountainareafeaturesastheresearchobject,analysisonthenaturalconditions,geographicaldistributionfeatures,Geomantic Omen,historicalcauses,villageform,regionalculture,architectural characteristics,street spacespiritspaceby thetheoryofhumansettlement,andputforwardsuggestionstotheadaptiveprotectionanddevelopmentoftheJingxitraditionalvillages.Thecontentof thethesisisdividedintoeightparts. Theintroductionpartdescribesthebackground,method,foreignanddomestictrendofthesettlementresearch,introducesthescienceofhumansettlementsfoundedbyDoxiadis,andcombinesthefiveelements(nature,society,shells,networks,man)withthecomponentfactorsoftheJingxitraditionalvillagestoformtheresearchframework.Chapter2analysesthespatialdistribution,topographyandgeomorphology,climateconditionsandFengshuifeaturesoftheJingxitraditionalvillagesfrom the“nature”perspective.Chapter3analysesthecultural,geographical,religious,political,economicalelementswhichrelatedtotheformation,developmentandspacemorphologyofvillagesfromthe“society”perspectiveanddividestheseveralculturalcommunities,whichbelongtotheJingxiculturalecologycircle,intothegradationsystemoftheculturaleco
