Corresponding author : YU Chunyang, Email: chyyu @ mail. neu. edu. cn) Abstract: Fast realtime rendering problems of extra large terrain in VR are studied. A new method of terrain modeling is proposed. This method divides the w hole extra large terrain into many smaller tiles, and splices the original terrain according to certain rules w ith these tiles. The VR program only needs dynamic loading the tiles data w hich can be seen by client and unloading those w hich cannot be seen w hen roaming. This method resolves the memory problem effectively and improves rendering efficiency. Key words: VR; terrain modeling; block; splice; dynamic loading , [4- 8] , , , , , , ,
