NORTHERN TERRITORY PUBLIC SECTOR Declaration of private financial or other interests Definitions For the purpose of this Declaration, the following terms are defined: ‘immediate family’ includes a Chief Executive Officer’s spouse, including de facto spouse and dependent children; ‘Conflict of interest’ means a conflict between private financial or other interests and official duty or responsibilities of the agency, whether real or apparent; ‘Other relevant person(s)’ means any other person with whom the Chief Executive Officer has a close personal relationship, including persons who are substantially or wholly reliant on the Chief Executive Officer for support, financial or otherwise. Purpose The purpose of declaring private financial and other interests is to officially demonstrate that you have identified interests which might result in a conflict of interest, and after due consideration, that you have taken appropriate action to resolve such conflict or prevent it from arising. You are not required to include all private financial and other interests in your declaration; only those interests that you consider give, or may give rise to, a conflict of interest. The onus is therefore upon you to identify such interests, declare them, and to take appropriate action to resolve any conflicts of interest or prevent them from arising. This document is intended to assist you in that task. Declaring private financial and other interests In accordance with the Northern Territory Public Sector Principles and Code of Conduct you are required to complete the ‘Declaration of Private Financial and Other Interests’ annually. This declaration has two parts. Part A – Declaration of private financial and other interests This must be completed by Chief Executive Officers. Headings are provided as a guide to interests you should consider in determining whether they give, or may give, rise to a conflict of interest.
