Hilti HIT-RE 500 From: DMPg Used in wood base Date: June 25, 2001 Hilti Development material Page: 1 / 5 Fastening Systems Hilti HIT-RE 500 Use of Hilti HIT-RE 500 Injection Adhesive in Wood Base Material General information: Due to the good bonding / adhesive properties of Hilti HIT-RE 500 injection adhesive, it can also be used for fastening metal fasteners like threaded rods, internally threaded sleeves and rebars in timber. To obtain design values for fastenings made with metal fasteners in wood using Hilti HIT-RE 500, short- term tests and long-term creep tests were carried out with fastenings in different types of wood and with different positions relative to the run of the grain. To our knowledge, there are new national and international draft standards which covers fastenings made with steel bars bonded in wood. These are E DIN1052 and Eurocode 5, part 2 – 1997. These standards cover the allowable (permissible) characteristic bond strength. They also describe timber as a base material, the permissible sizes of fasteners, the edge distance and spacing requirements, the depth of embedment requirements and the influence of the depth of embedment on the permissible bond strength. The codes also include the safety concepts for the design of fastenings in timber. The design information in this document presents Hilti’s results from testing fastenings in timber and it gives design recommendations for fastenings in wood using the HIT-RE 500 injection adhesive.
