In this novel, The writer created a perfect tough-guy image— Santiago. Because of Santiago and Hemingway’s perfectionism and tough-guy image, their life was doomed tragedies. There are lots of researches about Santiago and Hemingway’s tough -guy imagine and tragic consciousness in China, But almost all of these researches just care about the tragic consciousness itself and The writers’ biography; They seldom care about what nowadays people can learn or can understand from this legendary opus. So the key point and the innovation point of my paper is the third part of my paper—the reality meaning of the tragic consciousness; In others words, what we can learn or what we can inspire from the novel’s tragic consciousness. Recently, The foreign researches about Hemingway were deeper than the past years, because the Boston Kennedy library let Hemmingway’s manuscripts and letters open to the public. Since this, Academia had discussed a lot about some differences and misunderstandings about some opus of Hemingway. But what amazed us was during these discussions there are very little about one of the most important opus of Hemingway—The old man and the sea.
