Abstract: The differences of horizontal earthquake action in the seism ic design codes of Ch ina, Am erica and Eu-
rope are stud ied in th ispaper. Firstly, comparison ofbuild ing mi portance, strength reduction factors ofGB50011-
2001, FEMA450 andEurocode 8 is presented, and base shearmethod ofGB50011- 2001, equivalent lateral force
procedure ofFEMA 450, lateral force analysismethod ofEurocode 8 are summarized. Then, the seism ic base shear
of a multistorey frame structure w ith d ifferent ductility is computed as an office or a hospital bu ild ing under intens-i
ties , 8 and 9, the both computed resu lts are compared, and some d ifferences of seism ic base shear are found for
the three codes.
