B eij ing University of S cience and Technology, Beij ing 100083, China) A bstrac t: A 60M n steelring burst apart after its assembly of 150 hours. The analysiswas performed on fracture surface, chem ical composition, m icrostructure and lmi ited element calculation. The results showed that therewere flakes in the ring and thehydro- gen- induced delayed crackingwas induced in a flake under the hydrogen pressure and the assembly stress. The ringburst apart when thewhite flake grew to the critical size and the stress intensity factorwas above the fracture toughness.
