It aims to provide students basic and practical knowledge of how to be an English tour guide. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Know how to be an English tour guide. 2. Draft travel schedule and plan budget. 3. Introduce tourist sites to travelers. 4. Deal with all kinds of travel issues. RELATED TEXTBOOK English Tour Guide—A Practical English Course (2nd Edition) Hua Zhu (2009) ISBN 978-7-301-07664-4/H.1081 STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES A successful seminar depends on advanced preparation by completing required reading, writing, and peer reviews. The work we do prior to and in class is critical to the development of our learning community. If you come to class poorly prepared – or don’t come at all – our entire learning community loses. When in class, each of us can expect to fully contribute to support our learning community. Students can expect to complete substantial amounts of reading, research, and group work during the course. TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES As the assigned teacher for this course, my paramount responsibility is to facilitate an active learning community. My belief is that we’re all members of the learning community and share responsibility for co-creating the learning community. My responsibility as the facilitator is to be prepared to fully engage in the classroom experience and come to class fully prepared to ask questions, contribute to topics under examination, and complete the readings with you. In addition, I will strive to facilitate a community built on respect, shared responsibility for learning, and openness to diverse perspectives. GRADING POLICIES AND LEARNING ASSESSMENTS
