The Joy Luck Club The Joy Luck Club is Amy Tan’s first book and when it is released ,it enjoyed a good reputation .this book provides a good plat for Americans to learn about an oriental country which is distant from America and lead them to understand their western countries from a different perspective by comparing the culture between china and America,, which accounts for its being so popular. The book mainly tells stories of 4 women and their offspring . Suyuan Woo, An-mei Hsu, Lindo Jong, and Ying-ying St. Clair are four mothers from china and June Woo, Rose Hsu Jordan, Waverly Jong, and Lena St. Clair. Are their America born daughters.. Suyuan Woo establish the joy luck club and she aims at bringing four people together to play mahjong Before the four women came to America , they each have their own stories that have life-long influences on them .Suyuan Woo has a husband who was an kuomintang officer. Her husband took her and their two baby twins to Kweilin for their safety when Japan invaded china .however ,she finally had to escape from Kweilin to chunngking. Unfortunately she had a bad attack of malaria .she knew she were likely to die and she hoped that her two babies would be kept by others when she was still alive .so she made a decision to abandon her babies with agony .when she arrived at another continent across the pacific ocean she lost everything except her three silk clothes and a swan feather which symbolized hope and future .
