Mr. Callahan stopped into the office again today. He doesn’t understand how hard it is to meet his demands in today’s welfare environment. Politicians and government leaders want caseworkers like me to make it as difficult as possible for people like him to keep receiving their welfare checks. They want to encourage people who receive welfare to find other ways to support themselves.
Mr. Callahan wants me to pay to have his wheelchair fixed. I have no problem with it, but he acts like I am giving him a hard time when I ask him to fill out the necessary forms. He should be happy that filling out forms is all he has to do to get these services. Besides, I don’t make the rules.

I.
