The European Green Capital Award is based on this concept as the recognition of the efforts of European cities that have contributed to sustainable environment. Based on the principle of urban sustainability assessment, the theoretical framework and practice of the awarding have undergone it due evolution and well correspond to the changes in the sustainability philosophy.
