Correspondent: LIANG L-i sheng , E-mail: lianglisheng @ baosteel. com) Abstract: The occurrence of earl breakage of the water pipe for cooling stave in the No. 3 BF threatened seriousl the operation of the BF and its service life. It was found that the main causes of the breakage are the unreasonable design of cooling s stem, low cooling intensit , defective stave and uncontrolled w ater qualit . Several measures w ere taken to restore the function of stave, such as using miniature cooler, rebuilding the stave and external watering, and good results were thus achieved somewhat . To remove thoroughl the hidden perils of the breakage of w ater pipe for stave, the cooling staves in the sections S3 and S4 w ere quickl and successfull replaced integrall , thus improving the furnace conditions greatl .
