This paper presents gradual change forms on plastic equivalent strain and lateraldisplacem ent in various frictional coefficients, which are obtained from the smi ulation of the influ- ence of the end frictional effect on a plastic equivalent strain, lateral displacement and element stress- strain curve in a plane strain using contact element in ANSYS. When friction is them inmi um on the contact plane, the plot of plastic equivalent strain is two X- shaped localization bands from the upper to the lower end w ith a uniform distr-i bution of lateral displacement. W hen friction is large on the contact plane, the plastic equivalent strain localization bands increase greatly and move towards the m iddle of the specmi en. A t the same tmi e, the lateral displacement distribution is not uniform and the displacem ent in them iddle is larger than those near the wt o ends. When the la-t eral displacement is restricted at both ends of the specmi en, .i e. , the friction is very large, the plot of plastic e- quivalent strain change to oneX - shaped localization band, the lateral displacem ent distribution becom es even less uniform, and large dilation occur in them iddle of the specmi en.
