Nanjing FAYN Piston Ring Limited Liability Company，Nanjing 211200) Abstract ：Based on Ringpak software, the effect of the roughness of cylinder liner and first piston ring on oil consumption was studied, for a vehicle diesel engine. Results indicate that: the roughness of first piston ring’s outer circle surface has a significant influence on the characteristics of scrape and distribution of oil on liner. With the increase of the roughness of the ring, the scrape function of ring will recede when Rq (Root Mean Square Deviation of Surface Profile) is under 0.4um, which leads to slightly reduce of oil consumption.
