The nonlinear property of the materialsw as considered and the nonlinear analysismethodw as used, the seism ic re- sponse analysis of frame-shear wall structure w as carried out, especially for the nonlinear responses under rare earthquake. The results show that the structure is safe and reliable under rare earthquake. The shearw all is elastic and there no plastic h inge appears, w h ich is good for resisting earthquake. P lastic h inges are found in coupling beam s, fram e beam s and sprags. Plastic hinges in coupling beams are deep ly developed, wh ich are useful for the development of energy d issipation. P lastic h inges in frame beams and sprags are not so serious and these compo- nents can be used w ithout repairing, w h ile coup ling beam s have to be repaired after rare earthquake.
