Institute for Research in Applicable Computing (IRAC) 1. Executive summary Overview Welcome to the 2012 to 2013 Annual Report of IRAC. Our institute continues to excel in conducting research at the forefront of applicable computer science and technology. Our research environment during this year has been vibrant. Our research outputs during this period have continued to make significant impact. Achievements: The achievements and accomplishments have been widely acknowledged through a set of recent awards and recognitions. • The Centre for Cyberstalking has made strides in its research through impact in society. • The Centre for Computer Graphics and Visualisation has been successful in getting several EC grants. • Centre for Research in Distributed Technologies (CREDIT) has been successful with EC grants as well as industry grants. • The Centre for Wireless Research (CWR), has been successful in filing patents and has expanded to the UCMK Campus. Research Output: During the year 2012-2013 IRAC researchers have published over 160 papers, including 66 journal papers. Outputs have also received best paper awards. We endeavour to improve originality, significance and rigour in our research and the quality of our research outputs exemplify this. Research Income: 16 EC projects and 4 UKRC projects are currently in progress. IRAC also secured funding for the Research Investment Bids and Rising Star bids from the University. IRAC People: New faculty members in CST continue to strengthen IRAC research. Eight new positions have been recruited from the PVC’s £1M research fund to the Institute. Research Students: IRAC’s research degree provisions in 2012-2013 has seen an increase in PhD applications this year. Ten new research students are expected to join IRAC in October 2013. This brings new vibrancy to the research environment of the Institute. Research Partners: IRAC rese
