GRADUATE INFORMATION GUIDE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEGREE PROGRAM SCHOOL OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING PURDUE UNIVERSITY 1. Introduction The Ph.D. program in IE is designed to educate leading researchers and educators in industrial engineering. The material presented in this guide is intended to serve as supplemental information to the document, titled “Policies and Procedures for Administrating Graduate Student Programs (henceforth referred to as Graduate School Policy).” (see Note 1.1) Note 1.1: The document can be found at http://www.gradschool.purdue .edu/faculty/publications .cfm as of February 11, 2011. Ph.D. Admission Applicants to the Ph.D. program are required to: ● Satisfy all of the admission requirements designated by Graduate School (see Graduate School Policy, Section III); ● Take the aptitude test sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE General Test); and ● Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if the applicant’s native language is other than English or if the applicant does not hold a baccalaureate degree from a college or university of recognized standing that is located in the USA. Successful applicants to the Ph.D. program usually: ● Maintain a GPA of 3.4 or better on a 4.0 scale during their previous graduate work; ● Have GRE test scores of at least 470 Verbal, 700 Quantitative and 4.5 Analytical; and ● Have scores of at least 570 (paper-based total) or 220 (computer-based total) in the TOEFL. 3. Degree Requirements In order to receive a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D. students are required to (see Note 3.1): ● Have an approved plan of study filed with the Graduate School (see Section 6); Approved by vote of faculty 26 January 2012
