The staircase effect on the earthquake-resistance perfo rm ance of fram e structures is studied. The interna l forces o f the staircase m em bers, w hich act as inc lined stru t in structure, are ca lculated. The stress of the sta ircase m em bers are analyzed using fin ite elem en tm ethod. The e lasto-plastic dynam ical response analysis using the tim e history ana lysis m ethod is conducted for the fram e structuresw ith staircases to determ ine the structure y ie ld ing m echan ism. It is suggested that sta ircase should be iso lated from the m ain structure in design.
