Teacher Notes This book has two different lessons based around measurement; there is one on time, and another on measurement using metres. The first lesson will allow students to measure the time being slept on an average night. It is during this time that the teacher can work on how to measure time, estimation, as well as numeracy. To complete questions 7-9, students should be able to use the fraction to answer the question as opposed to calculating the hours. However, it is good to let the students experiment with the numbers, and provide strategies as a group at the end. The second lesson will allow students to measure the distance using whatever materials that are needed. The units would need to be changed in this case. It is during this time that the teacher can work on how to measure, estimation, as well as numeracy. Students should not have to measure the distance three times, but only once, and then add three times or multiply by three. Outcomes: Grade 3 SS3.1 Demonstrate understanding of the passage of time including: relating common activities to standard and non-standard units describing relationships between units solving situational questions SS 3.3 Demonstrate understanding of linear measurement (cm and m) including: selecting and justifying referents generalizing the relationship between cm and m estimating length and perimeter using referents measuring and recording length, width, height, and perimeter. Grade 4 SS 4.1 Demonstrate an understanding of time by: reading and recording time using digital and analog clocks (including 24 hour clocks) reading and recording calendar dates in a variety of formats. Grade 5 N 5.5 Demonstrate an understanding of fractions by using concrete and pictorial representations to: create sets of equivalent fractions compare fractions with like and unlike denominators. SS 5.1 Design and construct different rectangles given either perimeter or area, or both (whole numbers), and draw conclusions. SS 5.2 Demonstr
