The Analysis on Chinese and English Phonetics Abstract: Generally speaking, the languages in the world are divided into two kinds, tone language and intonation language. English belongs to a kind of intonation languages, which sounds like songs with more obviously passionate and poetic sense. While Chinese is a class of tone languages, of which the characters’ pitches are in fixed systems. As English has been popularized throughout regions where Chinese are widely used, accessing to much more abundant knowledge of these two kinds of languages has significant meanings to English learners. In order to provide help for increasing language learners, this essay concentrates on the distinguished features of Chinese and English on tones and intonations, and stands on the analysis the author put forward, presenting briefly and to the point, the conception for readers. I. Introducing the Study 1.1 Earlier Research Until around the 1930s, there were appearing scholars, like Y.R. Chao, beginning the study of Chinese and English speech sounds. Then an increasing number of professors have been setting foot in this field, and exactly something has been done by these researchers. On the basis of the formers’ achievements, we’ve knew that this study is involving phonetics, phonological construction, variation in the speech flow, syllables, pitch systems, stress and rhythm. An obvious phenomenon, which was been discovered, is that the majority of the earlier researches are about the analysis of English and standard Chinese phonetics; in addition, something about English and Chinese dialects.
