The oil-pressboard partial discharge experimentations are carried out in the needle-plate cylinder-plate and sphere-plate electrode systems ，the discharge stages in each electrode system are almost the same when the applied voltages are increased ；after surface discharge occurring ，discharge traces appear on the pressboard and then electrical trees are formed which are similar to the leaf ；the forming of the electrical trees on the insulation paper and the damage degree to the insulation paper may be concerned not only with discharge quantities ，but also with the tangential and normal components of electric field strength ； an effective measure is to Optimizing the insulation structures of the electric field for avoiding the discharge.
