Introduction Growing out of work in different disciplines in the 1960s and early 1970s, discourse analysis is a new subject concerned with the relationship between language and the contexts in which it is used and written texts of all kinds, and spoken data, from conversation to highly institutionalized forms of talk are what discourse analysts always study. Until now, many fruitful achievements have been achieved in discourse analysis abroad and also in China significant progress has also been made in guiding English teaching and foreign language teaching. In a word, discourse analysis has grown into a wide-range and heterogeneous discipline which finds its unity in the description of language above the sentence and an interest in the contexts and cultural influences which affect language in use. It is also now, increasingly, forming a backdrop to research in Applied Linguistics, and second language learning and teaching in particular. This paper, depending on the methods of discourse analysis, focuses on the reading material selected from the ShannXi English Paper of 2011 College Entrance Exam, aiming to provide some insights to the reading teaching for teachers and the comprehensive reading for students in high school. 2.
