* 商务单证 世纪商务英语 齐齐哈尔职业学院外语系 introduction Ocean Bill of Lading, or B/L for short, means a document which evidences a contract of carriage by sea and the takeover or load of the goods by the carrier, and by which the carrier undertakes to deliver the goods against surrender of the document, It is issued and signed by a shipping company or its authorized agent. DEFINITION Unit 4 Ocean Bill of Lading 1. It is a cargo receipt made out by the carrier; 2. It is the evidence of the contract of carriage between the consignor and the shipping company; 3. It is a document of title (ownership) to the goods. Functions B/L can be classified in different ways: Forms of B/L 1. According to order of consignee, there are Straight B/L, Order B/L and Bearer B/L(Open B/L , or Blank B/L); 2.
