This essay explores Nina’s mental world on the basis of the theory of personality by Freud. Nina has been going through a series of severe struggles and fightings between her id and superego. This essay tries to tell people to seek psychological balance in analyzing these struggles and fightings. Only when we reach the balance, can we live happily and bravely. Key words: superego, id, fight, balance, self-contradiction Introduction The movie “Black Swan” is a 2010 American psychological thriller film directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis. It has got about 12 nominations in the Oscar ceremony, and its heroine Natalie Portman has even won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the film, as well as many other Best Actress Awards in several guilds and festivals.
