Rotary Hearth Furnace Process for Recycling Steelmaking Dust and Sludge Daisaku Johbe Yuichi Sakurai Jyunpei Kikuta (Plant Machinery Division, Nippon Steel Engineering Co., Ltd. , Japan 46-59 Nakabaru, Kitakyushu-city, Fukuoka, 804-8505 Japan) Abstract Nowadays, it is demanded the recycling of the dust and the sludge produced in the Steel Mill , because the raw material for the iron making is soaring and also i t s required the environmental protect ion and the energy-saving. For this demand, Nippon Steel Corporation and Nippon Steel Engineering Corporation has developed and commercialized Rotary Hearth Furnace (RHF) process for recycl ing the dust and sludge from Steel Mill. However the dust , as the raw material of RHF, has some difficulties to treat by RHF. First is that the dust characteristics are easy to fluctuate, because they are produced from various locations such as Sinter , Blast Furnace, Basic Oxygen Furnace, and so on in Steel Mill, and also the characteristics of them cant be controlled. So RHF to be treated them is difficult to keep the stable operat ion. This paper introduces the characteristics of our RHF, which has been recycling the various kinds of the dust and which achieve the stable operat ion and the high energy saving effect .
