SUMMARY

On23–24March2022,theWorldHealthOrganization(WHO)MalariaPolicyAdvisoryGroup(MPAG)convenedvirtuallytoreviewupdatesandprogress,andtoprovideguidanceonthematicareasofworkbytheGlobalMalariaProgramme.

Thevirtualmeetingfocusedoneighttopicsinthreeopensessions:1)an

updateontheRTS,Smalariavaccineandthedraftframeworkforvaccine

allocation;2)theoperationalmanualforsubnationaltailoringofmalaria

interventions;3)Plasmodiumknowlesidiseaseburdenandtransmission:

implicationsforWHOcertificationofmalariaelimination;4)thereportofthetechnicalconsultationtoreviewtheclassificationofglucose-6-phosphate

dehydrogenase(G6PD);5)anupdateontheWHOGuidelinesformalaria;

6)anupdateon“RethinkingMalaria”andpreparationsfortheAfricaregionalmeeting;7)anupdateontheframeworkforresponsetomalariainurban

areas;and8)anupdateonthedevelopmentofastrategytorespondtoantimalarialdrugresistanceinAfrica.

ThekeyconclusionsofMPAGtotheGlobalMalariaProgrammeincluded:

?RTS,Sandtheframeworkforvaccineallocation:MPAGcongratulatedtheSecretariatanditspartnersonquicklyundertakingtheconsultativeprocesstodevelopthisframework.Theprinciplesandvaluesunderlyingthedraftframeworkwerewidelyagreeduponandanumberofspecificissueswereraisedforconsiderationinfinalizingandimplementingthe

framework.MPAGalsoemphasizedtheneedforcarefulmonitoringandregularreviewoftheframeworkimplementationatagloballeveland

withincountries.
